EARLIEST ENDORSED WRECK COVER RECORDED; 5 June 1817 EL (minor faults) to London with Brighton horseshoe d.s. and "BRIGHTON/Penny Post" h.s. on front. Rear with London d.s. and endorsed Bilboena Stranded at Rottingdean /J.B.Stone/Agent to Lloyds/5 June 1817. The Bilboena was later refloated and taken into Newhaven Harbour. Content by the master Laureano de Arrarte who writes of the event 'they could not cast the anchor and we were running on to the rocks....' .Illustrated in Hopkins (1968) at page 1.
