Dartmoor Auctions runs a quality monthly auction throughout the year in the fine Dartmoor village of Sticklepath. It is a great stop off point with a National Trust property in the village and of course Bowdens Nursery. It is owned by the Penrose family, well known as purveyors of quality plants and regular Gold Medal Winners at Chelsea Flower Show.

Frequently the goods at the auction are from recently cleared Devon houses and have little or no reserve.

Typical lots will include a great selection of Moorland prints, vintage luggage, quality African tribal art, antique furniture and curios.

We use our sister company Bowdens who specialise in Mail Order Goods to provide a seamless and hassle free packaging and courier service. Our auctioneers are Ann Thorp (Resident) , David Force & Martin Bellamy - over 100 years experience.

Always thrilled to hear from customers our phone number is 01837 849379

CONDITIONS OF SALE

ALL items are sold 'as seen'. Please request a condition report at least three days before the sale if you wish to confirm the condition of an item. Signing for items on collection is acceptance of the items, their contents and condition. Once signed for at point of collection, the items become the responsibility of the buyer.

TELEPHONE BIDDING is undertaken in good faith, but is entirely at the bidder's own risk.

RESERVE PRICES may be agreed between auctioneer and vendor. Alternatively, the vendor or his agents may bid – but the vendor may not also bid if it has been agreed that the auctioneer will be effecting reserves. If a lot has been entered at an unrealistic high reserve at the insistence of the vendor against our advice then a 20% charge of the requested reserve per lot will be made for any unsold lots.

Any withdrawn lots after lotting and photography will incur a £30 charge per lot.

The auctioneer will regulate the bidding and may refuse any bid.

All lots to be at the buyer's risk from fall of the hammer.

All lots purchased by one person will be taken as being in one contract

All goods to be paid for within 10 days of the auction close unless an arrangement is in place. Should items not be collected by the second Wednesday after the sale, then a £10 per day storage charge per lot will be added to the invoice.

BUYER'S PREMIUM – 20% Plus VAT

VENDOR'S COMMISSION – 20% Plus VAT

Circumstances out of our control

We do our very best to keep going at all times but on occasions there may be circumstances totally out of our control such as weather warnings or power outages. Should this affect a planned auction we promise to put every effort into communicating any changes as soon as we are able to.
We use Bowden's , our sister company that already specialises in postage and packaging to the UK. We aim to get all items from the auction packaged and posted within 5 working days of receipt of payment. Our auction admin team start working on the Monday after the auction and all lots should be posted by the end of that week.

Overseas bidders: please check with us before purchasing items to ensure that we can ship to your location. Most items are possible - weight is of course a pricing issue! Under 2KG parcels tend to be very straightforward but please bear in mind there will be an extra charge of £10 for filling out customs forms.

We understand that occasionally there are issues collecting lots won or deciding on shipping. Please keep us informed. We allow 10 full working days post sale for collection - failure to do after this time will incur a £10 daily storage charge at a minimum.

Should we get to a £200 storage fee (20 days) then an automatic £300 restocking charge will be applied if we have not heard from the client or managed to achieve a resolution.

We currently send all parcels on a standard 48 HR service with Royal Mail who, over the years we have found the most reliable. All parcels are covered for £150 compensation as standard. If the items are more value then we increase that amount.

The following is a guide but there are always exceptions

Most parcels : £15.00 UK (This is always insured for £150)
Insured for up to £500 - £30
Insured for up to £1,000 - £40

If a lot is large or has many components then we will probably charge a further £25 for extra shipping and the time taken to pack the items.

Pallets and door to door deliveries - all available via quote
Door to door delivery of a simple but very fragile item would be approximately £50
We are always very nervous about sending fragile items of high value in the post.

Larger and unusual items can be quoted for via pallets and private courier service
We use a regular courier we trust and that covers the entire country - Scotland included. We can guarantee delivery anywhere in the UK within a maximum of 2 weeks whatever the size of the lot.

Please be aware that we do not offer a packaging only service
