Photography, Local Interest - Frank Dawson-Smith (1886-1920), by, 70 b/w and sepia photographs of mixed sizes, of named-view topographical scenery and sights within the Peak District, some further Derbyshire village scenes of real life, other snapshots of a lady, presumably his wife Lavinia Dakin of Bakewell, mounted on mixed card and paper leaves, annotated and dated by the photographer's hand, pre-1914, [archive collection]

Frank Dawson-Smith (1866-1920) was born in Stony Stratford, Buckinghamshire, and became a schoolmaster at Derwent House School, Bamford. In 1914 he enlisted, survived World War One, but remained in the army. While serving as a lieutenant in the King's African Rifles, commanding a Somali platoon in Jubaland (Somali/Kenya border), his troops mutinied and he was murdered.
