A Qajar Lacquered Merchant’s Scale Box Signed by Hashim of Isfahan, 19th Century.
A richly decorated lacquered wood merchant’s scale box from Qajar Iran, signed by Hashim of Isfahan. The exterior is vibrantly adorned with hand-painted floral motifs, set within framed borders of red, yellow, and gold against a deep lacquered ground. The lid features a central bouquet surrounded by cartouches of blooming flowers, enclosed by detailed geometric and floral bands. The interior is fitted in worn turquoise with compartments housing a complete set of merchant’s scales, weights, pans, and silk cords, used historically for weighing precious goods.
