ELIZABETH BARRETT BROWNING. A REGENCY GOLD PANEL BRACELET, CIRCA 1819. formed with gold hinged panels, each one set with the hair and initials of the children of Mary Moulton-Barrett, within a surround of embossed foliate two colour gold decoration, a turquoise cabochon set to each corner, 17cm long, 49.1 grams.

The bracelet was designed for Mary Moulton-Barrett (1781-1828), wife of Edward Barrett Moulton-Barrett, their eldest daughter being Elizabeth Barrett Browning, who married the poet Robert Browning.
The locks of hair mounted on the bracelet in panels engraved with initials are from their children:

Provenance: By descent in the Moulton-Barrett family.

The oil portrait illustrated depicts Amelia Moulton-Barrett, sister-in-law of Elizabeth, wearing the bracelet, circa 1860.

The watercolour portrait is of Mary Moulton-Barrett (1781-1828), mother of Elizabeth and original owner of the bracelet.
