The Whittnall's are a well-recorded settler family, known since the famous 1820 immigration to Cape from UK, when represented by a Whitnall family from Kent. The surname occurs in both Grahamstown (where there is a Whitnall St.) and Queenstown, Cape Colony.
In the Cape Colony Province Guide in 1853, there is an R.M. Whitnall working as a clerk in the Military Dept. in Grahamstown.
