Seeley Mk2 BSA Gold Star Special, 499cc. Registration number not registered. Frame number none found. Engine number TBC.
Many-times British sidecar champion Colin Seeley bought Associated Motor Cycles' racing department when the company went into receivership in 1966. The previous year he had constructed the first Seeley racing frame to house a Matchless G50 engine, and the AMC purchase enabled him to produce complete Seeley G50 and 7R machines. With their improved frames, the ageing four-stroke singles enjoyed renewed competitiveness, Dave Croxford winning the British 500 Championship on a Seeley G50 in 1968 and '69. Manufacture ceased in 1973 and production of Seeley frames was later licensed to Roger Titchmarsh, while there have been countless unauthorised copies made over the years.
Built by recently deceased Scottish Classic Motorcycle racer Andy Richardson around a BSA DBD 34 Gold Star 500cc, and offered for auction by a family friend on their behalf. It was built to race or parade.
It is believed he started the build around 2015, "we know the engine is not standard, Andy spoke of Phil Pearson, Gold Star internals I can see no number on crankcases, could be B33 or could be original GS replacement cases which were not stamped, we used to use certain B33 casings which you could machine out for the big bearing and save the more expensive GS ones. Modifications done include high tensile Allen bolts down through head barrel screwed into crankcases, a vast improvement on BSA idea. The Head was also fitted with an extra plug in centre of the head which improved performance. Flywheels, Cams, Valves etc unsure, Mikuni Carb fitted. A lot of work was put into this engine and should be vastly improved on Standard Gold Star, but not yet tested on the track.
It has a Hemmings 6 speed gearbox, electronic ignition, AMC clutch, belt drive, Akron alloy wheels, Dunstall front forks, twin discs, “spare original discs included used” alloy tanks, Rev counter, top and bottom fork yokes are Innovation Racing, rear hub is unknown."
The bike has been started and run but not run in, it has Castrol Mineral Classic 50 oil in it.
Sold with no paperwork apart from two receipts.
