LAMB OF MANCHESTER, IMPRESSIVE CARVED POLLARD OAK SIDEBOARD, NUMBERED 6526, the triple panelled back with carved, slender end panels, above a deep, shaped top, over a central frieze drawer and panelled back, flanked by a pair of pedestals, each with arch carved central panel and ornate turned and fluted columns to the chamfered fore corners, and raised on a conforming plinth base, the left fitted with two green baize lined slides, the right with deep cellarette drawer, 50 ½” (128.3cm) high, 90” X 30” (228.5cm x 76.2cm), maker’s mark and number stamped to the top of the left column of the left pedestal. Supplied with a typed note on unbranded paper: THE CAPITAL SIDEBOARD IN POLLARD OAK. 7’3” wide with low panelled back, centre drawer and end cupboards, one fitted cellarette. (Made form oak grown in the ancient forest of Burtisland Nottinghamshire, from one of the trees cut down in 1848)
C/R- minor losses to the veneer to the front edge of the top, the back with water marks and staining to the right side, the inverted quadrant pieces beneath the drawer look to be later and stained to match, usual very minor lifting to the veneer, rubbing and surface scratching
