Built in February 1970, this metal bumper, Glacier White MGB GT, with black trim was delivered to Morris Garages in Oxford on 20 February 1970 and registered in March 1970.
Apart from the chassis having substantial work undertaken over the intervening years, little else is known about the early history of this car, which came into the possession of the current owners in January 1997. They have garaged the car since 2000 and it has only travelled 6193 miles between 18 January 1997 and 12 November 2014.
Throughout July and August 2000 XMO 180H underwent substantial bodywork restoration that included the replacement of the front and rear wings (with no structural rust damage to the rear inner panels), driver's door, bonnet and front valance, together with a full bare metal re-spray.
The body shell and the new wings and door were then stripped of existing paint and undercoats and taken back to bare metal. Repairs were made to the roof, rear valance and nearside door. The metal was prepared or painting and six coats of primer/undercoat applied, flatting with wet and dry between applications. After flatting and filling imperfections in last primer coat, topcoats of "Glacier White" were applied. A total of six applications of two-pack gloss finish paint were used.
The car was refitted using new bumpers, over riders, new front windscreen surround, tailgate badges, door lock set, nearside front side and indicator lamp assembly and reconditioned Rostyle wheels. Additional mechanical work carried out included installation of a Kenlowe electric cooling fan, fitting a new steering wheel and inertia seat belts. September 2009 saw the replacement of the existing engine with a refurbished unleaded engine.
With the exception of the steering wheel, the cockpit equipment and displays, plus seating, appear to be original to the vehicle. The interior retains the original black colour scheme and, like the seats, would benefit from being updated/restored.
XMO 180H has been regularly serviced and the current MOT certificate, which expires in November 2015, shows an odometer reading of 23883 miles, having only travelled 163 miles since May 2012. The new owner will be supplied with copies of all available bills and service/restoration records.
We have a PDF file of the restoration works for those interested.
