A VERY FINE PAIR OF 18TH CENTURY BRIGHT CUT SILVER GOBLETS, with gilt interiors, London, 1796, by the silversmith due of Duncan Urquhart and Naphtali Hart. The unlikely pairing came from different backgrounds, Urquhart a Scottish Christian and Hart a British Jew, however they worked well together and created some fantastic silverware during their partnership. They recorded their first manufacturer’s mark in the London Goldsmiths office in 1791.
The pair of goblets are decorated with bright cut designs to the rim and base, along with a wreath surrounding initials to the body of each cup. They have graduated stems which come to a circular base. Weight – 314g / 10.1oz, Height – 14.5cm & 14.7cm, Diameter at Rim – 7.8cm
