After completing her degree in psychology, Chitra Parvathy Merchant left India and
came to the UK to take a second degree in illustration at U.W.E Bristol. In her work,
Chitra explores the forest ecologies and temple landscapes of the Western Ghats in
South India where she grew up and where her grandfather was a forest officer. She
finds inspiration in the region’s 'Devakads' – the sacred groves – and the
mythologies that surround them. Chitra also hopes to shed light on the
environmental threats facing this fast diminishing landscape.
