Some cars are considered collectables from the word go. Porsche has sold many such collectable sports cars in its 60-plus years of business. Their limited-production 911 Speedster, of which only 2,065 were built in 1989, was one of these. It not only celebrated the end of the first generation of air-cooled 911 production, which dated back to 1963, but evoked the legendary 1954-’57 356 Speedster in name and image, a sure fire hit with Porsche enthusiasts and automobile collectors alike. Only 139 cars were made in right hand drive.

Despite being an “image” car that was highly recognisable as a special edition, the 911 Speedster brought the goods. Considered option “M503” and based on the 214hp 3.2 Carrera Cabriolet, it debuted at the 1987 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The production 1989 Speedster wore a unique aluminium framed windscreen that was more than 3 inches lower and raked 5 degrees flatter than that of the standard Cabriolet. One-piece wind-up side windows, lacking the Cabriolet’s fixed quarter panes, curved salaciously in concert with the low-slung “temporary” convertible top, a complicated-to-erect fabric cover that lacked the insulation, lining and optional power actuation of that on its Cabriolet sibling. It may have been tough to fit and not totally weatherproof–Porsche actually required buyers to sign a disclaimer accepting some wind noise and water leaks in poor weather, but when raised, the roof echoed that of the 356 Speedster, and made the 911 look deadly sinister.

The very rare Porsche 911 Turbo Look Speedster offered here, is one of only 64 right hand drive UK supplied examples, and which has covered only 48,000 miles. This is a genuine factory car and was supplied new by Chariots of Kidlington. The car is finished in Guards Red with contrasting Black Leather, which has Red Piping. The car is fitted with high pressure windscreen and headlamp washers, and has a Limited Slip Differential. All the original factory books are with the car, including the "Speedster Supplement", and the car also comes with a substantial history file.

This rare car is said to be in superb condition, inside and out, and has been well maintained. As with all Porsches, this car will only appreciate, and is a fantastic car to use whilst it does.

This car is part of a deceased estate sale which has not been used for the last few years, but has been in dry storage.
