The John H Robertson Collection of full size wet plate negatives ca. 1880-85. Acquired more than 30 years ago by a Coldingham man, the lot for sale comprises 53 glass plates produced in Dundee by the pioneering photographer John H Robertson during the 1880s. Robertson worked out of Dundee between 1867 and 1909. These plates came from his studio at 51a Perth Road and were bought in Perth Road in the 1980s. The subjects and the scenes have been partially identified and a complete list is available upon request. There are more than 70 further plates the locations of which have not been identified and they will be made available for a negotiated sale to the successful bidder on this lot. The plates are in excellent condition; all have been scanned and a positive DVD has been created which is included with this lot. The plates are not in the auction room for reasons of safety but are located a couple of hundred metres away and viewing can be arranged by appointment. Subjects include many scenes in St Andrews (including images from St. Leonards School for Girls), Perthshire and Dundee and there are unusual human interest type shots of sewing, shoe making, wood working classes, etc. (54). Supplied together with a DVD of all the plates in positive.
