The Mini was officially announced to the public on 26 August 1959. The Mini was marketed under BMC's two main brand names, Austin and Morris, until 1969. The Morris version was known as the Morris Mini Mini-Minor, and the Austin was sold as the Austin Seven. In 1964, the suspension of the cars was replaced by another Moulton design, the hydrolastic system. The new suspension gave a softer ride, but it also increased weight and production cost. In 1971, the original rubber suspension reappeared and was retained for the remaining life of the Mini.

BMC insisted that the way company overheads were shared out, the Mini always made money. Larger profits came from the popular De Luxe models and from optional extras such as seat belts, door mirrors, a heater and a radio, which would be considered necessities on modern cars, as well as the various Cooper and Cooper S models.
The Mini entered into popular culture in the 1960s with well-publicised purchases by film and music tars. The Cooper S version was also used by some British police departments as a plainclothes car.

This very early Morris Minor De-Luxe Mini was built in the first seven months of production, and was registered to a lady in the north of Scotland. She bought it with intention of learning to drive, but this did not happen, so the car was never used. When she died, the car was passed on to her neice who traded it in with a local Austin Rover garage. It was then purchased for a lady who apparently didn't get on with the gearchange The car went back to the Austin Rover dealer again. The previous owner puchaesd the car in 1992, and it seems thet the car was displayed in the Austin Rover garage, and then at The Alford Grampian Transport Museum. The previous owner was prepared to warranty the very low mileage of 28,000, and the available paperwork would seem to support this assertion.

THe car colour is "Cherry Red", and the Heritage Certificate that comes with the car confirms that it is a De-Luxe model. The car is said to be matching numbers and has its original registration number. It is in very good original condition, and ready for its new owner. It is very unusual to have a Mini as old as this in such good original ondition.
