The Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior was introduced in 1972, to plug the gap between the GT 1300 Junior and the larger-engined 2000 GTV. In the UK right-hand-drive market the GT 1300 Junior was dropped, but in many other markers the two models were available as a range. The engine was substantially the same as that of the Giulia Sprint GTV discontinued four years previously, and had the same engine type number.
This 1973 Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior is a rare Italian built, UK supplied from new car, not a South African built and recently imported car. The car has covered roughly 66,000 miles. It is fitted with an Alfa Romeo 2.0 Litre Twin Spark engine with 5 speed manual gearbox. This engine conversion is very popular as it has the benefits of extra power and usability, being electronic injection.
The car is ideal for fast road & track day use. The car has been fitted with Alfaholics fast road suspension setup, Alfaholics GTA 15”x7” alloy wheels (In new condition) with road legal semi slick tyres, stainless steel manifold & centre exhaust system with mild steel rear box, sump guard, alloy radiator, and has been de-bumpered. The car comes with lots of service history, parts invoices, old MoTs, previous owners history etc.
The paintwork will require attention to make it more presentable, and the vendor believes that it is a brighter yellow than it should be. But it is useable as it is and prefect to be driven and not to worry too much about. The rear boot lid is rusty on the lower edge (very common due to water sitting in the lip), these are available for roughly £150, so not expensive to replace.
The vendor states that he has not used the car much in the last few years, and the brakes feel a bit spongey so may require looking at. The gearbox has the usual alfa second gear light crunch if rushed when cold, but when warm the box changes up and down fine. The rev counter bounces so could do with attention.
Being a GT Junior these are smaller bodied than the GTVs, so are lighter and more agile, like the step front models it replaced.
