Property of a lady - a pair of 19th century Chinese Canton famille rose baluster vases, painted with panels of figures, each 9.25ins. (23.5cms.) high (see illustration). Provenance - by repute General Sir Robert John Hay KCB (1828-1910), Colonel Commandant of the Royal Artillery, who served as Assistant Adjutant General of Artillery in China at the end of the Second Opium War, and was present at Sinho, Tangku, the capture of Tahu Forts and the surrender of Pekin in 1860, and thence by family descent to the present vendor.
