The Mk II Jaguar was introduced in 1959. It came with a 2.4, 3.4 or 3.8 litre XK engine. The car was re-engineered above the waistline, slender front pillars allowed a wider windscreen and the rear window almost wrapped around to the enlarged side windows. The radiator grille was larger, side, tail and fog lamps repositioned. Inside a new heating system was fitted. There was an improved instrument layout that became standard for all Jaguar cars until the XJ Series II. From its introduction the Jaguar Mk II developed a strong following in many walks of life. With wonderful styling and a race-bred engine and four-wheel disc brakes, the ability to carry five passengers at great speed, the car proved to be a great success.
The vendor bought this lovely 1961 Jaguar Mk II 2.4 manual overdrive in May 2018 to accompany a blue Mk II which he already had, to do weddings. His circumstances have now changed, so he has decided to sell. The car is said to run very well, and starts first time. The car has had new front and rear screens fitted, and the carburettors have been rebuilt, as also has the power steering-box. The car has been re-trimmed with new carpets and new leather. The interior wood is said to be reasonable considering the age of the car, and as an old restoration the bodywork is not fault free, but the vendor stresses that this is still a good usable car which wouldn’t take much to get to a really good standard.
