A 1953 Bristol 403, registration number ONB 447, chassis number 403/1417, engine number 100A/3136, maroon. With the introduction of the 403 in 1953, Bristol’s already impressive Grand Tourer was further improved with some important changes. The 2 litre straight six engine had a new alloy cylinder head which unleashed an extra 15bhp raising the bhp to 100. The 403 was now a genuine 100mph car and with improvements to the running gear and Alfin alloy brake drums all round the Bristol became a true gentleman’s express. This 403 was dispatched to Arnold Ltd on 5th October 1953. 1417 is fitted with the correct 100A engine, standard not remote gear change lever and Alfin brake drums. The 403 has been with the current custodian for the last nine years. During that time he has undertaken repairs and maintenance including the fitting of a new clutch, refurbishment of the brakes, carburettors cleaned and balanced, and extensive professional repairs to the outriggers, sills and boot floor with photographs of the fabrication work at all stages. We are informed that the Bristol is now structurally and mechanically sound, has good oil pressure and is running well.
