Joe Davis is widely regarded as the father of modern snooker. He won the first 15 World Snooker Championships between 1927 and 1946 and was never beaten in the event. He was also a multiple World Billiards Champion, made the first officially recognised 147 maximum break, and was awarded an OBE for his services to cue sports.
