Our vendor says that the car has 90% original paint, its never been welded and is rust free, with shiny original paint underneath. It was only on the road for 14 years, then dry stored from 1987 until 2011 in a barn in El Paso, Texas. Since then it has undergone a comprehensive and sympathetic preservation, retaining as much originality as possible.

Work includes: All steering, suspension, brake components, which have been removed and either replaced or overhauled. Original brake calipers split and honed, then rebuilt. Wheel bearings replaced, tie rods, ball joints, drag link, steering column bearings and rubber coupling replaced. Steering box has been replaced with a very good used one. New master cylinder, servo, wheel cylinders, shoes, pads, hoses. New shock absorbers. Original discs and drums lightly skimmed. Engine removed, stripped and checked and re-detailed. New exhaust, rubber seals and all service items. New alternator. New CV joints, gearbox removed, checked over and detailed. New Bosch starter motor, new 12-volt battery.

The windows were all removed and rebuilt with new seals, including the Westfalia Louvred windows. New cab door window and door rubbers. New sliding door seal, rear tailgate seal, engine lid seal. Every seal throughout replaced. Front cab mats, under seat mats and walk-through mat replaced. New front seat covers and door interior panels. Rear original upholstery (rare 1973 only mustard cloth) painstakingly removed, carefully washed and refitted as original. New reproduction Westfalia checked curtains to match the remaining wardrobe curtain, with correct Westfalia tiebacks. German quality yellow Westfalia poptop roof canvas renewed as original. New poptop rubber seals and trim. Matching Westfalia Continental double roof bed fitted in the same original yellow mustard cloth covering; optional extra when new. Original Westfalia cab bunk machine washed. This camper is 5-berth.

Original paint fully polished with a few localised repainted areas - mainly front panel and rear corners due to a proliferation of stone ships; we worked at great pains to preserve the character of the vehicle, rather than restore. Bumpers repainted in original Pastel white with new deluxe trim rubbers. Registered in the UK with original style raised reflective digit plates from Tippers. Original US Sapphire Bendix FM radio in working order. New best quality door mirrors. Electrics completely gone through with new RHD halogen headlamp units fitted to original US spec housings. Original wheels have been blasted and finished in silver powder coat with new thin band whitewall tyres, to complement the US Specification.

This has been a four-year preservation project; there is nothing that hasn’t been checked over, reconditioned, or renewed. The vehicle drives as new.
