Like the 107SL, the SLC was, under the skin, virtually a W114 with a larger engine, with styling cues from the contemporary S-Class. This approach to developing low volume models, proved far more profitable than the clean sheet design approach of most other manufacturers.

The SLC succeeded the saloon-based SE coupes and convertibles of the 1960's. The 107SL's wheelbase was stretched and the car received a fixed roof. Within the longer wheelbase, Mercedes managed to fit seating for a generous 2 + 2 and a larger boot, while retain the relationship with the full convertible. The SLC was and is a Grand Touring Car, which offered similar attributes to the Jaguar XJS, albeit with more passenger and luggage space. The USA was the largest market for the SLC but factory production never exceeded 7000 cars, not even in a good year.

Reluctantly offered for sale this 1973 350 SLC was in the custody of the previous owner since 2004 and much money was spent. The car was always garaged during this ownership and it benefits from a lovely full history file, including lots of old MoT certificates to verify mileage, The black MB-Tex interior is said to be in superb condition, while the body is extremely good, with rust free paint and excellent chrome. The car has excellent quality carpets throughout, including the boot Correct specification tyres, which are as new with 7mm+ tread depth, with new spare.

Finished in metallic silver, the car sits very nice original alloys. Over £1,600 recently spent on service items and the car has a current MoT through June 2013 and road tax to end February. Said to run really nicely, lots of power; with a genuine 119,100 miles.

This is a chance to get a truly nice, full 4 seater early SL Coupe. The vendor is only selling because he needs some space, as he already owns a 380SL, and couple of Talbot Tagoras(!...yes really!).
