An 18th century ivory fan, the monture finely carved and pierced, the gorge particularly elaborate, with birds and oriental figures, the lower gorge attractively overlapping, finished with tortoiseshell thumb guards, the double paper leaf depicting many oriental figures at leisure, with features not normally shown, an exchange of perhaps medicinal items in the centre, and a table in the background used for games? The verso shows a child and his tutor, drawings on a table to the side, studying astronomy, guard approx. 28.5cm.
The upper guard is broken and has an inadequate repair. Loss to the tip of the lower guard. One gorge stick detached but present Some damage also to the leaf.
