A Jain Cosmic Diagram (Lokapurusha), 19th Century - A vertically oriented painting depicting a Jain cosmic diagram, known as Lokapurusha. The highly stylized anthropomorphic figure is rendered in a folk art style, characteristic of South Asian tradition. The central figure, predominantly yellow, features a crescent moon on its forehead, prominent earrings, necklace, and armbands. Its body is distinctly compartmentalized, showcasing small, illustrative scenes within a central vertical column, and a prominent circular motif at the abdomen which features elements resembling Indic script. The lower body is rendered as a checkered skirt-like structure, all set against a rich red background adorned with simplified floral motifs and framed by a dark brown border.

Approximately 120 x 61cm
