They were designed by John Wallace, who went by the name George Pipeshank in these illustrations, they were large, fully coloured lithographs, which depicted a topical scene with caricatures of politicians and celebrities of the day. The ‘Cope’s Arctic Card’ was issued in February of 1877, and shows a bustling image capturing the history of many expeditions that had striven for the ‘Arctic Prize’. The main image depicted shows the imagined celebration had Sir George Nares had a successful expedition and ‘Brought the Pole Home’. 19” x 15” approx plate, 25.5” x 22.5” approx frame
