Winslow Homer (1836-1910), varnished print of his 'The Herring Net (1885)'. Homer was a prolific American landscape painter and printmaker, best known for his marine subjects.

In this image Homer captures the conflict between man and nature in his depiction of two fishermen hauling in a herring net amidst a stormy and powerful seascape.
