AN H & R DANIEL SHREWSBURY SHAPE ARMORIAL CREAM BOWL AND COVER

the white ground with green and gilt banding and decorated with the Earl of Shrewsbury 's coronet, with scarce Daniel mark to the inside of the lid, 16cm high x 18cm wide

Sold with a note stating that this piece formed part of the service made for the 15th Earl of Shrewsbury and was purchased from the 21st Earl in 1960 at the sale of the contents of his family mansion, Ingestre Hall, signed by Mrs M. Marsh.

Provenance: The Beardmore Collection, no. 440.

Note: Daniel gained the patronage of the 15th Earl of Shrewsbury, Charles Talbot (1753-1827) and his wife the Countess Elizabeth Hoey, who lived at Heythrop House. A large commission was completed for them in 1827 and comprised an extensive service. See the example on page 10 in 'Daniel Patterns on Porcelain Tablewares', for a plate with the same coronet and pattern. The Shrewsbury shape became very popular as it continued to be supported by the descendants of the Earl.
