In 1967 Jaguar introduced the 240 and 340. These were interim models intended to fill the gap until the introduction of the XJ6, but the 240 continued until April 1969.
240 engine power was increased to 133 bhp, with more torque. It now had a straight-port cylinder head and twin HS6 SU carburettors with a new inlet manifold. The automatic transmission was upgraded to a Borg-Warner 35. Power steering by Marles Varamatic was now available on the 340. There was a slight reshaping of the rear body with slimmer bumpers and over-riders, and for the first time the 2.4 litre could exceed 100 mph, resulting in a slight sales resurgence. The leather upholstery was replaced by Ambla, a leather-like material and tufted carpet was used on the floor. Other changes included the replacement of the front fog lamps with circular vents and optional fog lamps for the UK market.

The vendor tells us that this vehicle is solid with no rot, just some surface rust on door bottoms and boot lid edge. The engine was rebuild 5000 miles ago, it benefited from a re-bore, new piston rings and crank shaft re-ground, with bills present. The car drives without fault, smooth gearbox and clutch, overdrive working.

Showing 11 former keepers and two colour changes, it would benefit from a new interior trim kit. The mileage is believed to be around 105,000 miles according to old MOT's. The car had a speedometer change in 2011, and is now showing 4,000 miles.
