In 1962 Lotus launched a legend in the shape of the Lotus Elan. Following on from the original Elite, the new Elan offered improved handling, performance and had less fragility, with is new steel chassis. The Elan was powered by the twin-cam four cylinder, Ford-based engine which would become a legend in its own right, powering other classic Lotus models including the Lotus Cortina and the MK1 Escort Twin Cam.

The original Elan came as an open two seater and from 1964 a fixed head coupé was also available. In 1967 a new Elan 2+2 joined the range which offered a completely new body shape, which offered more comfort in a classic GT, 2+2 format. Both models continued to sell well throughout the late 60s, with various model changes (including the Elan Sprint and 2+2 130) and more powerful engines.

This outstanding Lotus +2S has had just 2 former keepers and has been in the vendor's ownership for the past 30 years.

The body and chassis / sill members (galvanised )were replaced with genuine Lotus parts about 25 years ago by EE Holloway and sons of Byfleet. Always garaged and only fine weather driving since. Not used for 10 years or so but now ready to rock with July 15 MoT .The car benefited from a ground up restoration over a three year period, with a windows-out full respray inc. engine bay. The 1600, Twin Cam engine was rebuilt by Pat Thomas of Kelvedon Motors using new head casting. The engine was Dyno tested at 137 Bhp.

The mechanical specification includes Vernier sprockets - full bore racing stainless exhuast manfiold and s/ box. New flywheel/ ring gear/ pre engaged starter. Hydraulic internal clutch modification. Kenlowe fan. K2 output shafts and solid drive shafts. Complete brake system overhaul. Adjustable dampers, all springs and all suspension poly bushes replaced. New wiring loom. New dash, carpets and much more.

In the words of our agent, It is probably the best example of a +2S you will ever see.
