A square piano by Jacob Ball, London, 1788, inscribed on a boxwood plaque Jacobus Ball Londini fecit 1788, Duke Street, Grosvenor Square, the mahogany case with holly stringing, the sycamore faciaboard and cheeks with rosewood crossbanding inlaid with harewood swags, the five octave keyboard, FF to f3, with ivory naturals and ebony accidentals, single action with overdampers, two brass-knobbed hand stops controlling the damper lift and buff split between b and c1, on frame stand with cross stretcher supporting a small shelf, length 155cm., width 54cm. *This square piano is sold with historical documentation detailing repair work carried out over the years from Michael Cole, Tim Smithells and Robert Morley Ltd.
