A George III silver cased verge pocket watch. The white enamel dial with Arabic numerals hand painted with a scene of Lord Hill on horseback, surrounded by soldiers and cannons, the silver cased hallmarked Birmingham 1814, the decorative gilt fusee movement, signed 'Jn Evans, Shrewsbury' No. 3030, with a silver outer case, case diameter 5cm. Rowland Hill was the first Viscount Hill 1772-1842, born at Prees Hall, Nr Hawkstone and fought in Napoleonic and Peninsular Wars. Hill's accomplishments were exceeded only by his Commander-in-Chief, Wellington. After Waterloo, Hill was created Baron Hill of Almaraz and Hawkstone, and in 1828 became Commander-in-Chief of the Army.
