A mid Victorian gold natural pearl, enamel and gem-set hinged bangle, circa 1860. Comprising twin mythical sea creatures with ruby eyes and emerald collars, gripping a central circular locket of branch surround and pearl, ruby and enamel floral motif hinged lid. With report 5776-6452, dated 26th July 2016, from GCS, stating natural, saltwater, 8.36 grains. Inner diameter 5.9cms. Weight 36.9gms.

More Information

  • Overall condition good. Surface scratches and discolouration in keeping with general age and wear.
  • Lid a possible later replacement.
  • Enamel has possibly been repaired. Replacement gems.

  • Rubies are in closed back settings, presumed foil back and appear a light to deep red hue, with good clarity and typical inclusions.

  • Rubies are in good condition with some minor nibbles to girdle and facet edges.

  • Emeralds are a medium to deep green hue, with good clarity and typical inclusions, some of which are surface reaching.

  • Emeralds are in good to fair condition with some minor nibbles to girdle and facet edges, one has large chip.
