£55
An oval case containing two interesting 19th century oval portrait miniatures - (1) An (a/f damaged, partially complete) oval portrait 67mm x 53mm, on ivory, of woman wearing white coif and barbette, backed with paper and perhaps vellum, sits loose within the case.
(2) Watercolour on paper, 80mm x 62mm, head and shoulders of Indian soldier with musket, in green coat and blue turban. The hinged case is lined with cream silk with red leather exterior, overall about 85mm x 70mm. The paper portrait of the soldier is lightly stuck into the case and although clearly of some age was perhaps added to the case later than the woman's portrait for which it was most probably made.
