A Second War Period Gurkha kukri knife, with engraved presentation plaque inscribed Captain Gaje Ghale VC 5th Royal Gurkha Rifles Burma 1943, the horn and brass-handled knife and miniature knives housed in the original ornate chased pierced and engraved unmarked Oriental silver-mounted scabbard, overall length 40cm. Captain Gaje Ghale was awarded the Victoria Cross as a Havildar (Sergeant) when leading a Platoon of young soldiers of the 5th Royal Gurkha Rifles along a knife-edge ridge to attack a Japanese stronghold, despite being wounded by a grenade he ignored his injuries and continued to throw grenades with his other arm and successfully fought to capture the position
