TABLES CHRONOLOGIQUES DE L'HISTOIRE D'ALLEMAGNE, CA. LATE 18TH CENTURY. 32mo French manuscript of approx. 65 leaves, neatly compiled and written in a fine 18th century hand, chronicling key events in German and Central European history from 691 to 1779. The entries, written in French, reflect a learned and systemic approach, focusing on the actions and influence of the Austrian Habsburgs.
Bound in handsome full dark green morocco with elaborate gilt border tooling. Small gilt crown motifs suggest noble or high-status ownership. Likely produced for personal study or instruction: front flyleaf inscription in pencil "Chef-d'oeuvre d'ecriture. Aide-memoire pour se rememorer des phases du pouvoir de l'Autriche en Italie." ("Masterpiece of writing. Memo aid to remember phases of Austria's power in Italy.")
Very good to near fine. Minor rubbing and small marks to covers; pages clean and well preserved with some light foxing.
