A large John Rose Coalport mug, circa 1805-10, attributed to Thomas Baxter, painted with a Neoclassical scene from Homer's Iliad, depicting a semi-nude Achilles restraining the helmeted Agamemnon; Athena holding a staff/rod standing behind, likely during the dispute over Briseis, further decorated in gilt with a Greek key meander border surrounding a printed band of fruit and flowers, unsigned, 13cm high and 11cm rim diameter Provenance: The C.R. Pilkington Collection, exhibited at the Coalport China Works Museum. Condition:Good condition with no damages or repairs. Some slight rubbing to the gilding on the rim and a few small scratches to the painted panel, notably the purple cloak.
