A charming antique oval group portrait miniature on ivory of four children, late 18th century / early 19th century,
the older boy depicted reading, the younger boy with bird on a cord, the standing girl with a doll, and the seated
girl doing needlework. The children are by stone pillars with a garden beyond. The oval image 75mm x 95mm. No signature visible. In a dark hardwood hinged oval case, lined with black silk, the miniature is under domed glass which is slightly loose. Overall case 87mm x 111mm
Ivory Exemption Certificate Number - Q9GPRYE9

More Information

The condition of the image is very good indeed - clear colours, no chipping to the ivory disk. Glass domed cover is present and intact, again in good order. Case is present and in overall good condition but as per the photographs, there is a gap where one assumes a catch would have been present, and there is a chip to one side about 1/4" wide. Internal silk liner is present. Obviously from the pictures, the image and glass are loose. The case has a pair of (presumably later) external catches fitted which hold it closed securely.
