Russian school, seven assorted watercolour studies for costume designs (7)
Report by RB
They are all watercolour drawings in mounts. On the backs of the following they have a modernish typed label:
A Girl of the Kozaks of Isherkash 1830
A Kalmuk housewife and girl in their national costume 1830
An Ingushian, a tribe inhabiting the Caucasus 1830
A lady of distinction among the Nagays, and a Princess of that nation attended by a female slave 1830
A Tartar woman 1830
A Circassian Princess in her domestic dress 1830
The last ones, condition generally good, some of the paper is slightly discoloured with a small bit of foxing.
The final one, which is unmounted, inscribed to the top left hand corner, A Boschee, inscribed to the top right hand corner From Mason (indecipherable initials below). £22 in pencil at the bottom left hand corner, the paper is off white, there is a water stain beneath his feet, and the bottom right hand corner has a fold to it.
