In 1951, 3 years after the launch of the pretty XK120 Roadster, Jaguar unveiled another version of its XK120, the Fixed Head Coupé. The new hardtop coupé featured an elegant roof section, which closely reflected the lines of the much larger Jaguar Mk VII Saloon.
The XK120 Fixed Head Coupé was equipped with wind-up windows in bright finished surrounds with small rear quarter windows behind them. External door handles and locks gave the Fixed Head Coupé a more civilised image than the rakish Roadster. Mechanically the car differed little from the open versions and made use of the powerful six cylinder, 3.4 litre, XK engine.
The example offered here dates from the final year of production for the 120 and has been in care of the deceased owner since 1981, when it was bought as a restoration project. Part of a large and eclectic private collection, the car is only being sold as a result of the death of the owner and the advancing years of his widow.
Finished on Old English White with superb red leather interior, the car is in excellent order and is on the button. However, we would advise some inspection and minor recommissioning before use, as the motor car has been stored for some time. The rare factory sunroof is in excellent working order and the car does drive.
The XK register has kindly provided further information on this 120 FHC, which supports the fact that it is a matching numbers example and was originally finished in Lavender Grey with suede green interior. The car was built on the 5th February 1954 and delivered to Appleyard of Leeds. During its life the car has worn various registration numbers but it now carries the original number NWT 216. The car was first registered to a Mr. R H Newsholme of of Oakworth near Keighley.
Offered complete with a JDHT Heritage Certificate, which will be included in the history file.
