RARE COVER TO MALTA WITH BOTH BLACK "GIBRALTAR" ARC & 2-RING "B.C./CADIZ" CONSULAR MARK; 18 Jan. 1827 EL from Cadiz to "H.M. Ship Canopus, Malta" unusually endorsed by the sender"To be sent by the Steamer if she takes the Wine for Canopus"(!), charged "6[d]" with - most exceptionally - both a very fine 2-ring "B[ritish]. C[onsul]./CADIZ" mark and a fine black "GIBRALTAR" arc both on the front, and additionally endorsed "Forwarded by L. Dunbar" [the Cadiz Packet Agent] on the top flap. Only two covers have been recorded with both of these Cadiz/Gibraltar marks (see 1827 lot below for the other cover). Exhibition Item.
