Daimler was once the choice of Royalty around the British Empire and enjoyed Royal patronage right up to the 1990's, with the DS420 limousine. However, once they had absorbed Lanchester and eventually fallen into the hands BSA, the best years were behind them. If it had not been for Jaguar Cars, the Daimler name may have died in the 1960's but Jaguar required increased production capacity and William Lyons could see some benefit in owning the Daimler brand, so Daimler was acquired by Jaguar Cars in 1961. However, none of the current Daimler models would remain in production but a hybrid saloon appeared using the MKII Body shell and running gear, with a Daimler V8 engine designed by ex Triumph Motorcycle man, Edward Turner. This engine came as a 2.5 litre, as used in the Dart (SP250) Sports Car and a 4.5 litre, which had powered the Majestic Major. It was the 2.5 version that found its way under the bonnet of the MKII and the Daimler 2.5 V8 saloon was born. Post 1967 cars were redesignated as 250V8 Saloon and were equipped with the same slim line bumpers as the 240/340 MKII Jaguar but whereas the Jaguar ended up with cut price Ambla seats and lost a few options, the Daimler continued as a luxury compact saloon.

Offered here a late version of the 2.5 V8 Saloon, which described as simply outstanding with a genuine 32000 (THIRTY TWO THOUSAND) miles from new. Owned by the same family until it was acquired by the vendor in 2007, the car had been dry stored for many years. It was brought out of storage and recommissioned prior to the vendor acquiring the car.

Finished in Old English white with saville grey leather, the car is in outstanding, predominately original condition. The car is equipped with the 3-speed Borg Warner automatic transmission. The interior is in quite superb order, with original leather, carpets and wood veneers. It is offered complete with a current MoT, many previous MoT certificates and original paperwork from new.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire an outstanding example of these underrated Daimlers, which are now benefiting from rising values, especially in this condition.
