From the earliest times, Andre Citroen's prowess as an innovative engineer had been evident and the traction avant model, introduced in 1934, was a groundbreaking design and a true milestone car, remaining in production until 1955. Its successors, the DS and ID Series, were equally revolutionary and featured futuristic styling both internally and externally. Memorable features included the single-spoke steering wheel, self centering steering and a revolutionary suspension/braking system. Throughout the production run, these models benefited from gradual upgrades of specification, with the engine being enlarged to 2-litres from 1967. As with previous Citroens, right-hand-drive examples were assembled at Slough. The DS was so far ahead of its time, it was still seen as advanced when, ultimately, it was replaced by the transverse-engined CX Series in the mid0970s.

Offered here is a 1971 DS 20 Super in LHD, which was originally registered in France but was subsequently acquired by an English owner in 2005. Mr Helson kept the car until 2011, when it was purchased by the vendor. Since acquiring the vehicle the vendor has invested in a full repaint, new carburettor, electronic ignition and new exhaust. The interior has been retrimmed, with new seat covers and foams and new carpets.

Equipped with the 1985cc, 4 cylinder engine and 4-speed manual transmission, the car is said to be an excellent example of the model, with no evidence of any previous welding and no visible rust.

The car is only offered for sale due to ill health.
