THE VC ACTION AT COLENSO : Driver Neil's papers show that he served in 14th Battery the time of the battle of Colenso and was transferred into 66th Battery shortly afterwards. Both batteries took part in the disastrous artillery action at Colenso during "Black Week" in Dec. 1899 for which several VCs and numerous DCMs were awarded to those who tried to "save the guns".
