An early 19c bulb cistern barometer by James Charteris of Dumfries. The silvered register plates are within a glazed case and the scale has a vernier operated by key from the case side. The hood has a semi circular top with a fan moulding and the tube is enclosed within a convex casing. The cistern is enclosed within a shield shaped casing and the case is of mahogany with boxwood stringing around the glazed head. The case is 103cm tall overall.

The tube seems to be working and has no air bubbles. The register plates are dull and the case has a piece of moulding missing above the cistern cover and is dull and in need of polishing.
