The 1945 introduction of the Jaguar Mk IV was a vital step in the history of the marque. Pre-WW2, the Jaguar name was used as a model badge for vehicles built by the Swallow Sidecar Company (SS for short). These vehicles included the famous SS 90 and 100 variants. Post-war it was decided to change the brand, given the 'SS' title had gained notoriety in WW2. Known fondly as the 'litre-cars', being they were offered as 1.5, 2.5 or 3.5-litre variants, the first Jaguar's Mark IV title was only applied retrospectively after the Jaguar Mk. V came along in 1948. The litre cars built on late pre-war SS designs, the smallest engine of the range actually of 1776cc capacity and had only four cylinders. The 2.5-litre straight-six actually displaced 2664cc, while the top of the range 3485cc six was a true 3.5-litre car, giving smooth and potent performance. Elegant four-door saloons and two-door Drophead coupes were the available body styles, both cutting graceful figures and really bedding down the Jaguar mantra of 'Grace, Space and Pace'.

Appearance was marked by a long hood, upright radiator capped by the Jaguar mascot, large freestanding headlamps, flowing separate front wings, and a narrow, close-coupled body. High-quality interior furnishings included a traditional British wood dash with large, plainly marked dials. Top speed for the 1.5 Litre was about 70 mph; the 3.5 Litre could reach a bit over 90 mph.

Most Mark IV's were built with right-hand drive for the British market as Jaguar's export drive didn't begin in earnest until a few years later.

This beautiful example of a 1947 Jaguar MKI 1.5 litre has been lovingly restored over many years and is offered in outstanding condition. Finished in royal blue over white with French blue hide and navy carpets, the car offers the collector or enthusiast a great opportunity to benefit from the vendors considerable expense.

The car is offered complete with a current V5 and original green Log Book, which dates back to 1965. There is also a copy of an original owners handbook and letters from the DVLA with reference to the reissuing of the original registration number. The car is now reunited with that number, which is non-transferable.
