The E-Type Series 3 was introduced in 1971, with a new 5.3L V12 engine, uprated brakes and standard power steering. Optionally an automatic transmission, wire wheels and air conditioning were available. The brand new V12 engine was claimed to produce 272 bhp, and a 0-60 mph acceleration time of less than 7 seconds. The Series 3 was available only as a convertible and 2+2 coupé. The longer wheelbase now offered significantly more room in all directions. The Series 3 is easily identifiable by the large cross-slatted front grille, flared wheel arches, wider tyres, and four exhaust tips. It is thought that only 7,990 convertibles and 7,297 Fixed Head cars were produced.

This 1973 Jaguar E-Type V12 Manual Roadster, was subject to a £100,000 re-build at English Cars of Distinction in the late 90s. The car has 4 previous keepers recorded in the V5c, one of whom was the vendors father, and the car has only done about 5,000 miles since. There is a DVD of the work done on the car, showing it being re-built on a jig, and virtually every panel including the bonnet seems to have been replaced. There are also invoices for in excess of £15,000 for various work done after the re-build, mostly Main Dealer invoices. Although he restoration was some time ago, because it has been used so little and stored so carefully, the car remains in excellent condition, and is only being sold because the vendor finds he uses it less frequently than it deserves.
