the 13" silvered dial with Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial on a brass, four pillar single train movement with deadbeat escapement, the case with domed hood and gilt ball finial, with pendulum and weight, movement and dial unsigned, height 226cm
*Provenance: from Auchinleck House, home of renowned Scottish biographer James Boswell, 9th Laird of Auchinleck, and thus by descent to the present owner.
Boswell is best known for his biography of Samuel Johnson, The Life of Samuel Johnson, which is regarded by many to be the greatest biography written in the English language
