FABERGÉ: A PAIR OF SAPPHIRE AND DIAMOND EARRINGS Each of hoop design, set to the front with calibré-cut sapphires in a geometric pattern, further enhanced with brilliant-cut diamonds, mounted in 18K white gold, signed Fabergé, maker’s mark for Viktor Mayer, English hallmarks, diamonds approximately 1cts total, length 2cm The fourth-generation family-owned house of Victor Mayer has a longstanding reputation of high-quality craftsmanship and design, creating elaborate guilloché enamel collections in particular. Founded by Victor Mayer (1857-1946), after marrying Lina Neemand of Baden Baden, the company found its way through the Belle Epoque and Art Deco era under the importance of skilled craftmanship, taste, talent and artistry. Navigating through both World Wars, the family Mayer suffered, as so many other families, tragical loss. Oskar, the only son who survived WW1, took up his Father’s day-to-day tasks and enrolled into the knowledge of the requirements and taste of their clientele. Oskar’s sister, Maria, married Edmund Mohr, who later would run the business together with Oskar after the passing of Victor Mayer. Later succeeded by their sons Hubert Mayer and Dr. Herbert Mohr. Dr Mohr’s enthusiasm for the artistic craftsmanship of the tsar court jewellery, laid as a source of inspiration for the collection ’Esprit de Fabergé’, generating the company to become the work master of Fabergé. Today, the company is successfully run by Dr Marcus Mohr, remaining to create unique and elaborate jewellery collections.
