An oak joined armchair, once thought to be associated with Mary, Queen of Scots Probably Scottish, 16th/17th century and later, the pierced and carved crest rail centered by a crown, above a carved inscription 'Dunnottar Castle', the main panel with scrolls and flowerheads, branded owners' initials AP, within lappet carved uprights, and on turned front legs, height 110cm, width 64cm, depth 50cm, height of seat 35cm. Sold with an 1898 Auctioneers invoice from Alexander Dowell, Edinburgh, along with associated letters to the purchaser, Sir Donald Currie. The letters reference a bidding battle between Sir Donald's agent and the keeper of the Scottish National Museum of Antiquities, where the connection of this chair to Queen Mary is mentioned, along with another.
