HOW TO BUY
There are several ways of buying from Chelsea Auctions.
If this is your first time, we have explained below the different ways you can buy at Lots Road Auctions, we hope you find it helpful.
The best way to see all the items on sale is to come to Lots Road in person. If you wish to attend the auction to bid in person you will need to register at the front desk where you will be asked to complete a registration form giving your name, address and contact information together with providing your payment information. You will only ever need to do this once, as on any subsequent visit you will only have to give your name and a paddle number will be provided. This is a card with your unique number for the sale.
During the sale, simply raise your paddle when you wish to bid and wait for the auctioneer to acknowledge you. Other bidders may wish to bid on the same lot, they will bid against you in the same way. The auctioneer will continue taking bids from each bidder until all but one drops out. The last bidder is the successful buyer. The auctioneer announces the lot is sold by knocking down his hammer on the rostrum and announcing the buyer’s number and the final hammer price.
If you are the successful buyer and do not wish to bid on any further lots you can take your lots with you once you have paid in full at reception.
ABSENTEE OR COMMISSION BID
If you cannot attend the sale, you can leave a ‘commission bid’ for as many items as you are interested in buying. The auctioneer will endeavour to buy the item/s for you at the lowest price possible.
Should two bids of equal value be received on a particular lot, preference is given to the bid that arrives first. Therefore, why not leave an amount that does not end with a zero or five (e.g. £203 instead of £200).
You can leave a commission bid after viewing the sale in person if you cannot attend the sale or you can complete the simple form online. To leave a Commission bid online, simply go to the catalogue and click on ‘Bid’ against any lots that are of interest.
First time users will need to register and leave full contact information. For already registered buyers, enter your user name and password. All buyers are more than welcome to phone a commission bid through 020 7731 0035 to us at our office during our normal business hours.
ONLY CREDIT/DEBIT CARDS IN THE NAME OF THE BIDDER WILL BE ACCEPTED. WE WILL NOT ACCEPT BIDS WHERE THIRD PARTY DETAILS ARE GIVEN.
If you are successful, you will be contacted on the telephone number you have provided or you can view the results online from approximately 30 minutes after the end of the auction on Tuesday evening. All standard Buyers Terms & Conditions apply; please ensure that you have read these carefully before you bid.
To change your personal details, please go to ‘View Account Details’ and amend accordingly.

N.B. LOTS MUST BE COLLECTED BY 1PM ON THE DAY AFTER THE AUCTION
STORAGE WILL BE CHARGEABLE AFTER THIS TIME
PLEASE NOTE THE ONLINE COMMISSION BIDDING CLOSES AT 5.30PM on the day of the sale. WE CANNOT ACCEPT ANY BIDS AFTER THIS TIME.
Buyers can ask to bid during the sale by telephone. In these instances an auctioneers assistant will call you in good time before your Lot is due for sale and will relay your bids live to the auctioneer.
An auction clerk calls you and he relays your bids to the auctioneer during the bidding of your lot.
You will need to provide us with your contact number.
It is sometimes wise, as telephone lines can prove unreliable, to provide a backup number and/or to leave a commission bid just in case we are unable to contact you on the number provided.
There is no additional charge for this service.
BUYER’S PREMIUM (SEE BUYERS CONDITIONS).
The Buyer’s Premium is a percentage the buyer pays in addition to the hammer price.
The current premium is 20% on all the lots + VAT (24% including VAT).
Lots can be paid for during the sale and collection must be made within 24 hours. If lots are not collected by 1pm on the day following the auction, a storage charge of £20 + VAT per lot per day will be incurred unless alternative arrangements have been agreed.
