The Highest Bidder to be the buyer. If any dispute arises the auctioneers shall have absolute discretion to settle it and put any disputed lot up again for sale.
All buyers are deemed to have read and understood our methods of payment, as outlined here; Cash, personal cheque, Lazer Debit Cards. Visa and MasterCard credit cards are accepted.
All buyers Accounts are to be settled within 24 hours of completion of auction.
Buyers premium 19.5% excluding Vat. For Outside Auctions & House Contents Auctions Buyer’s Commission is also 19.5%. Vat at 23% will Apply to this Commission only, unless otherwise stated.
All lots are put up for sale subject to any reserve price imposed by the vendor.
While the possession in a lot shall not pass to the Buyer until he/she has paid the purchase price in full, ownership of the offered lot shall pass to the buyer upon the fall of the hammer when the auctioneer announces the lot has been sold. From which point the buyer shall assume full risk and responsibility for the lot. The buyer – if requested – is to give in full their full name and address, again, if requested, the buyer to pay down a 50% part payment of the purchase money: in default of which the lot or lots purchased may be immediately put up again and resold.
All lots are sold as shown with all faults, Imperfections and errors of description or of genuineness of authenticity. Messrs. Matthews Auction Rooms makes or offers no warranty whatsoever.
The lots to be taken away at the buyer’s risk and expense not later than 5.00pm on the day following the sale date(s); in default of which Messrs. Matthews Auction Rooms will not hold themselves responsible if the same are lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed. They will be left at the sole risk of the original purchaser and subject to a charge of 10 euros per lot per day storage charge. If, at the expiration of two days after the conclusion of the auction (unless otherwise agreed in writing with the auctioneer), the lots are not cleared by the purchase,r or his/her agents (or if arrangements not made for collection and/or the auctioneer not informed of same), and/or not paid for, the Lot(s) may be sold immediately after these two days post sale date(s), either publicly or by private treaty, without notice being given to the defaulters, and any loss to the original purchaser will be deemed his/her loss. And futhermore, any loss to the auctioneer as regards his original fee income derived from the original sale price of the Lot, will be deemed due from the original purchaser of the Lot ie the defaulter.
It is the buyers’ responsibility to measure any item to ensure it can be accommodated in its’ intended location. The auctioneer's measurements must always be given as approximate and not accurate or binding. All buyers must check their purchases before the lots leave the building. Matthews Auction Rooms will accept no claims for loss or damage thereafter or from the drop of the hammer.
Upon failure of the buyer to comply with any of the above conditions, any money deposited in part payment shall be forfeited; and the defaulter shall make good any loss arising from the resale, together with charges & expenses in respect of both sales.
Care is taken to ensure that any statement as to authorship, attribution, origin, date, age, provenance, originality and condition is reliable and accurate but all statements are statements of opinion and are not to be taken as statements or representations of fact. The auctioneers reserve the right in the forming of their opinion to consult and rely upon the expert or Authority reasonably considered by them to be reliable.
Written bids (“Commission Bids”) shall be taken and carried out for the convenience of the bidders. Messrs. Matthews Auction Rooms shall not be responsible for failing to execute such bids or errors relating to the execution of such bids.
Live telephone bids are accepted at the auctioneers discretion, generally only on lots with an estimate of 200 euros upwards.

All lots purchased must be removed from the Auction Room within two days of the sale, without exception. Or arrangements for collection and delivery made, with our recommended carriers, or their own. Shipping & Packing on smaller size lots purchased can be arranged in-house by contacting the auction house at 00 353 49 8550055. Minimum charge €15, plus vat. While reasonable care will be taken by the auctioneer, or his agents, in the packing & shipping of parcels, insurance cover for loss or damage in transit will only be provided up to a maximum of 200 euros per parcel, and only on explicit instruction at the time of the Shipping & Packing request by the purchaser. Any insurance cover beyond this figure of 200 euros will be deemed the purchasers responsibility. Transport as regards larger sized or more valuable lots can be arranged in Ireland with John Reilly Transport Tel: 00 353 86 1721676. John is a recommended carrier who has worked with the auction house for ten years and is both reasonable and careful. Or the purchaser can otherwise arrange transport/shipping & packing with his/her own agent.
